Western Pacific Operating Divisions

Western Pacific was originally divided into two operating divisions, Eastern and Western. Within these two divisions were separate districts then subdivisions. Operation under this concept lasted from 1909 until 1965.

July 28, 1974 Standard Timetable

This was also not to last. In July 1974 all of the Western Pacific family was united under one umbrella and referred to as the Western Pacific, Sacramento Northern and Tidewater Southern Railroad Companies. Numbered subdivisions returned and named branches were identified.

In Union Pacific’s timetable issued on June 12, 1983 the ex Western Pacific was now known as the Western District with an Eastern and Western Division, Sacramento Northern Branches and the Tidewater Southern.

An item of interest is the first distribution of this timetable had a pink cover. This was quickly recalled and a replacement issued with a tan cover.

Timetable number eight issued on November 20, 1983 found the ex Western Pacific as part of the Utah and Western Divisions.
